Leongatha Optometrists | Leongatha, VIC | Four days per week
Start with four consistent days - and build the clinical workload from there.
Leongatha Optometrists is looking for an Optometrist to join its independent, two-room practice for four days per week.
The role is structured to provide consistent hours while you establish your patient base. Initially, your week is expected to include approximately two days of consulting, with the remaining days supporting optical dispensing.
This is a starting arrangement, not a permanent 50/50 split. As your patient base and appointment book grow, the number of consulting days is expected to increase and the dedicated dispensing component will reduce. You’ll continue to dispense for your own patients where appropriate, providing continuity from the consulting room through to their eyewear selection.
Broad-scope optometry with room to develop
Leongatha Optometrists has cared for the local community and surrounding Gippsland region for more than 50 years.
The practice provides broad-scope primary eye care to patients across all ages, with particular clinical interests in:
- Dry eye disease and treatment
- General ocular disease diagnosis and management
- Ongoing eye-health management
- Soft contact lenses
- Rigid and more complex contact lens fitting, where clinically appropriate
You’ll have the opportunity to build confidence across general optometry while developing your own clinical interests.
The practice continues to invest in its clinical services and technology, with equipment including:
- Visual field testing
- Oculus corneal topography
- Wavefront autorefractors, including a handheld unit
- iCare tonometry
- Digital and manual phoropters
- Low-level light therapy and Blephasteam for dry eye management
An opportunity for an emerging Optometrist
This role could suit an early-career Optometrist, a recent graduate or a final-year optometry student preparing to begin their career in 2027. More experienced Optometrists are also welcome to apply.
You’ll work alongside the Optometrist/owner and Practice Manager, who are in the practice each day, as well as an experienced Optical Dispenser working four days per week. This provides an established team around you as you learn the practice, build patient relationships and grow your consulting workload.
You’ll bring:
- Eligibility for registration as an Optometrist in Australia before commencing
- An interest in broad-scope primary care optometry
- A willingness to contribute to optical dispensing while building your patient base
- Clear and considered communication with patients and colleagues
- A genuine interest in developing trusted, ongoing patient relationships
For a graduate, this is a chance to begin with variety, support and consistent hours.
For an Optometrist with experience, it offers the opportunity to develop a patient base and shape a growing clinical role within an established independent practice.
