Optical Assistant / Dispenser Custom Eyecare – Newcastle NSW At Custom Eyecare, you’ll be part of a genuinely full-scope independent practice where no two days look alike. From advanced clinical testing and specialty contact lenses to personalised eyewear styling and long-term patient care, this is a role that offers far more than just front desk administration or retail dispensing. Located in the heart of vibrant Darby Street, our family-owned practice has cared for the Newcastle and Hunter community for more than 25 years, building a reputation for thoughtful, personalised care and strong patient relationships. We’re looking for someone who enjoys working with people, loves learning, and wants to be part of a supportive team where they can develop real clinical and optical skills. Optical experience is highly regarded, but for the right person, training can absolutely be provided. For the right applicant, this opportunity can be either full-time or part-time. Days are flexible, however availability on Thursdays and some Saturdays would be preferred, with Saturday hours being 9:00am–1:00pm only. About the Role This is a diverse and hands-on role within a full-scope optometry practice, offering exposure to a broad and varied clinical caseload. Your day may include: • Assisting optometrists with patient consultations • Taking patient histories and discussing symptoms • Performing clinical testing including OCT scans, retinal photography, corneal topography, visual fields, tonometry and more • Assisting with contact lens fittings and education across soft, rigid, hybrid and scleral lenses • Helping patients select frames and lenses suited to their lifestyle and needs • Dispensing, fitting and adjusting spectacles • Supporting patient flow and ensuring an outstanding patient experience from start to finish No two days are the same, and training will be provided for the right person.
