Optometrist
Traralgon Optometry - Traralgon, VIC
Initially two days per week - Commencing January 2027
No weekends or late nights

An established practice. A considered transition. Time to care.

At Traralgon Optometry, full-scope care is part of everyday practice - from comprehensive eye examinations to managing ocular injuries and working with local ophthalmologists on ongoing patient care.

With 45-minute appointments, clinical autonomy and no KPIs, you’ll have time to get to know your patients, investigate their concerns and make considered clinical decisions.

We’re looking for an Optometrist to join us as one of our established clinicians gradually reduces their hours ahead of a planned retirement in mid-2027. Starting with two days per week in January, you’ll have an opportunity to settle into the practice and build patient relationships during this transition. Additional days may become available, potentially progressing to full-time following the retirement.

New graduates and experienced Optometrists are welcome, with mentorship and case discussion available from experienced colleagues.

Put your clinical skills to work
You’ll use your therapeutic skills regularly, with a varied caseload that includes:

  • Comprehensive eye examinations and ongoing vision care
Emergency presentations, including ocular injuries and foreign body removal
Post-operative reviews and referrals from local GPs and specialists
Co-management of glaucoma, uveitis and macular degeneration with local ophthalmology clinics
Spectacle prescribing and contact lens fitting

The practice is equipped with OCT, Optos, retinal camera, pachymeter, visual fields and corneal topographer to support assessment and management.

Experience to draw on

Traralgon Optometry has cared for the local community for more than 45 years, building a strong reputation and established relationships with local healthcare providers.

You’ll join two experienced Optometrists and four reception and dispensing staff, whose combined dispensing experience exceeds 40 years. From the consulting room to frame and lens advice, you’ll work together to provide continuity throughout the patient’s care.

New and recent graduates will have access to mentorship from clinicians who value sharing knowledge and discussing cases. Further study and training are encouraged at every career stage, including developing areas of particular clinical interest.

What you’ll bring

  • AHPRA registration as an Optometrist and therapeutic endorsement
    Comfort with foreign body removal
Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach to patient care
An interest in building lasting relationships within the community
An interest in contact lens fitting is welcomed.

Work that leaves room for life outside it

  • Weekday practice hours: Monday to Friday, 9 am–5.30 pm
    No weekend or late-night work
CPD allowance and coverage of AHPRA registration fees
    Salary aligned with your experience

Become a familiar face for patients who value continuity and a clinician they can turn to for the years ahead.
