Dual Role Optometrist

Leongatha Optometrists - Leongatha, VIC
Four days per week

Build your clinical workload without having to build your working week from scratch.

Leongatha Optometrists is looking for an Optometrist to join its independent, two-room practice for four days per week.

This opportunity offers the security of consistent hours from the outset, initially combining approximately two days of consulting with two days supporting optical dispensing. You’ll also remain involved in dispensing for your own patients, providing continuity from the consulting room through to their eyewear selection.

As you establish your patient base and consulting demand grows, the balance of the role is expected to shift progressively towards more clinical optometry. This is not intended to remain a fixed 50/50 structure; it is an opportunity to build towards a broader consulting workload within an established practice.

Broad-scope optometry with room to develop

Leongatha Optometrists has cared for the local community and surrounding Gippsland region for more than 45 years.

The practice provides broad-scope primary eye care to patients across all ages, with particular clinical interests in:

  • Dry eye disease and treatment
  • General ocular disease diagnosis and management
  • Ongoing eye-health management
  • Soft contact lenses
  • Rigid and more complex contact lens fitting, where clinically appropriate

You’ll have the scope to practise general optometry while developing your own areas of clinical interest.
The practice continues to invest in its clinical services and technology, with equipment including:

  • Visual field testing
  • Oculus corneal topography
  • Wavefront autorefractors, including a handheld unit
  • iCare tonometry
  • Digital and manual phoropters
  • Low-level light therapy and Blephasteam for dry eye management

A connected role within an experienced team

Alongside your consulting work, you’ll help patients translate their clinical recommendations into suitable lens and eyewear choices.

The practice is supported each day by the Optometrist/owner and Practice Manager, with an experienced Optical Dispenser also working four days per week. You’ll therefore have support around you while still being encouraged to contribute your ideas and develop professionally.

About you

You may be an experienced Optometrist looking for greater variety or a new graduate ready to commence during 2026.

You’ll bring:

  • Eligibility for registration as an Optometrist in Australia
  • An interest in broad-scope primary care optometry
  • A willingness to contribute across both consulting and optical dispensing
  • Clear, considered communication with patients and colleagues
  • A genuine interest in building trusted, ongoing patient relationships

New graduates are encouraged to apply, provided they are available to begin in 2026.

For an Optometrist who values clinical variety but also enjoys being involved beyond the consulting room, this role offers somewhere meaningful to begin, and genuine scope to make more of the clinical work your own over time.
