Looking for an optical role where there’s something new to learn?

Bassendean Optical is an independent practice with more than 25 years in the local community, combining everyday eye care and optical dispensing with a strong interest in children’s vision and vision therapy.

We’re looking for a part-time team member who can contribute to our optical dispensing and patient care while developing their skills in vision therapy.

You may already be an experienced Optical Dispenser, Optical Assistant or Vision Therapist. Or perhaps you have relevant experience and are particularly interested in developing your knowledge in this area. What matters is that you enjoy learning, can confidently absorb new information and are motivated to put that knowledge into practice.

A role with plenty of variety

This isn't a position where every day looks the same. Depending on your experience and development, your role may include:

• Helping patients select frames and lenses suited to their prescription, lifestyle and individual needs
• Providing clear advice and education throughout the dispensing process
• Supporting optometrists and the wider practice with patient care
• Developing your knowledge and practical skills in vision therapy
• Working with children and adults participating in individual vision therapy programs
• Contributing to the smooth day-to-day running of a busy independent practice 

For someone interested in vision therapy, there is the opportunity to learn how tailored programs can support children with visual difficulties as well as patients experiencing visual challenges following neurological conditions such as concussion, stroke or brain injury.

What will help you succeed

We're interested in someone who brings curiosity as well as capability.

You’ll need to be comfortable working in a busy environment, communicating with a broad range of patients and adapting when priorities change. Just as importantly, you'll be someone who enjoys learning new concepts, retains information well and can confidently apply what you've learned.

• Optical experience will be highly regarded, particularly dispensing experience, but we're also open to candidates with relevant transferable skills and a genuine interest in developing within vision therapy.
• Experience working with children, healthcare, education, therapy or other patient-focused environments may also be valuable.
