Optical Assistant/Dispenser - Five Dock Optometry

Optical Assistant / Dispenser – Full or Part Time
Five Dock Optometry | Five Dock, Inner West Sydney

Good dispensing is about more than choosing a frame that looks great. It’s understanding the person wearing it.

Five Dock Optometry is looking for an Optical Assistant or Dispenser to join its growing independent practice in Sydney’s Inner West.

With a broad mix of family eye care, children’s vision, myopia management, dry eye care and quality eyewear, this is an opportunity to work in a practice where the optical and clinical sides of eye care genuinely connect.

More than the dispensing desk
You’ll be involved throughout the patient journey, helping people understand their options and find eyewear that works for their vision, lifestyle and personal style.

Your role will include:

  • Frame styling and lens recommendations
  • Fittings, adjustments and repairs
  • Supporting patients from initial selection through to collection and after-care
  • Ordering, stock and maintaining the optical collection
  • Working closely with the Optometrists and wider practice team

With exclusive designer frames, advanced lens options and exposure to areas including children’s vision and myopia management, there’s plenty here to keep building your optical knowledge.

What will work well here
Optical experience will be highly regarded whether you’re a qualified Optical Dispenser or have worked in an Optical Assistant role. But it isn’t essential.

If you’re new to optics, you’ll need to be a confident communicator, comfortable working with people and genuinely interested in learning the technical side of eyewear and eye care. Training and support will be provided as you build your knowledge.

If you already have optical experience, you’ll have the opportunity to use what you know while continuing to develop across dispensing, lens technology and the broader clinical areas of the practice.

Whatever your starting point, attention to detail, curiosity and a willingness to learn will matter here.

The practical bits

  • Full or part-time
  • $27–$35 per hour, depending on experience
  • Saturday availability required
  • No Sundays, late nights or public holidays
  • Ongoing training and development
  • Modern independent practice
  • Broad clinical and optical exposure
  • Quality and exclusive designer eyewear

Why Five Dock?
Five Dock Optometry has built its reputation around providing independent, personalised eye care to families across the Inner West.

The practice has a particular focus on children’s vision through its dedicated Kids Eye Care program, alongside myopia management, dry eye care, advanced lens technology and everyday family optometry.

For an Optical Assistant or Dispenser, that means being part of a practice where there is always something more to understand about the why behind the eyewear you’re recommending.

If you know your way around an optical practice but still like having something new to learn, or you're ready to discover just how much there is to learn about optics, Five Dock gives you plenty of both.
