Optical Assistant/Optometry Student - New Vision Eyewear

Optical Assistant / Optometry Student – Summer Casual

New Vision Eyewear | Lara, VIC | Approx. 3 months | Flexible roster

Looking for a different kind of summer role?

New Vision Eyewear has an opportunity to join the team in Lara over the summer period, with flexible casual work and the potential for the relationship to continue beyond the initial three months.

You might already be working in optics and looking for some additional hours. You could be an experienced Optical Assistant or Dispenser wanting something flexible. Or perhaps you're at least two years into your Optometry studies and want to use the university break to keep building practical experience.

For students balancing research, study or other university commitments, the roster can be flexible around these.

What you'll be part of

Working alongside experienced Optometrists and the optical team, you'll support patients throughout their experience with the practice.

Depending on your experience, this may include:

  • Helping patients with frame and lens selection
  • Optical dispensing, measurements, adjustments and repairs
  • Welcoming patients and coordinating appointments
  • Managing orders and general practice administration
  • Supporting the everyday flow of the practice and patient care

Experience matters

This isn't a role where you'll be starting from scratch. Previous optical experience is essential, whether you've gained that through employment alongside your Optometry studies or through your existing career in optics.

We're looking for someone who can communicate confidently with patients, understands the optical environment and is comfortable getting involved wherever needed.

Flexibility beyond summer

The initial opportunity is for approximately three months over the university holiday and summer period, with flexibility around days and hours.

For an Optometry student, that could mean working more during the uni break and adjusting availability when study resumes. For someone already working in optics, it could provide the flexibility to fit around other commitments.

And if it's a great fit on both sides, the initial three months could open the door to a longer-term opportunity with New Vision Eyewear.

Whether you're building a career in optics or studying towards one, this could be three months well spent - keeping your skills current, adding to your experience and becoming part of a local independent practice along the way.
